Visualises a ray of light along with some solar data including

SunAngle, Summer Solstice, Winter Solstice, Equinox, Latititude and Altitude

Over the years I've found that students and non-architects find solar charts and solar analysis a little challenging to grasp, at least in the first instance... nz_Sunshine provides a visual representation of the relationship between the sun and architecture so that one can grasp a grass-roots fundamental understanding of how shadow castings works.

Sketchup is a great tool allowing you to quickly determine solar entry, and much can be achieved even with a Trial&Error approach however it is very important to appreciate the physical mechanics of Light and Shadow so that you can more directly access viable solutions.... nz_Sunshine will aid this learning and also may serve as a design tool in it's own right as you compare option and keep your local solar data such as the Solstice in mind whilst designing.

A new feature now allows you to define a plane facing the sun at any given time....it could be used to set the position of Solar Panels for instance..

Enjoy!

NB: You will need to draw a ground plane in order for the ray to extend to the ground when possible.

We are driven by our passion for the interpretive potential of architecture, and all that which can be designed. The relationship between people and their environment is fundamental to "Demonstrative Architecture" because architecture can be inscribed with meaning through the experience of form and function, and in this manner architecture/design can be an authentic manifestation of all that which we value and wish to be... When we are not designing buildings we are enabling creativity... I'm pleased to share some of our Sketchup Extensions. Design something worthwhile.....
