I’ve purcased full version ambient occlusion pro for my sketchup 2017. I’ve downloaded as you recommended version plugin- and can you tell me why I can’t add plugin to the manager extension window?

Veinna L's picture

I've purcased the full version for my MAC. Now I'm changing to Window. Would it be any possible that I can transfer the plugin to my Window?

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Yes, it's possible to transfer the plugin to windows. If you encounter issues, please contact us at the support email.

But my window is a new laptop. Can be done as well? because I can't trace back my activation code. Please advise.

I bought ambient occlusion lite last year but why can not I download anymore?

Is it already finished downloading?

Does anyone who bought the lite version have any benefits for the pro version?

If I bought a pro version currently on sale, how long can I download it?

If a new version comes out, can I update for free?

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Hello, AmbientOcclusion Lite is not supported anymore. Please contact us at ambientocclusion-sketchup@fluidinteractive.com to learn about our discounts for upgrade to AmbientOcclusion Pro.

Hi
Having trouble with alpha textures with paid version of AmbientOcclusion Pro. Does this plugin support the use of .png files as texture ? All of my faces are properly front forward but .png texture produces incorrect type results. Would look forward to assistance please.

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

In general, yes, it does support .png files. There are different .png file formats, so it might be that not all formats are supported. What software did you use to save the .png files?

Render does not respect hidden objects - it renders all anyway...
Uninstalled, because this is a must!

"AmbientOcclusion pro trial has expired"

How am I supposed to test the software and decide if I want to purchase it if the trial wont even work?

Sorry to come back onto the problem of changing shadows. The problem is: when I change the direction of the sun (shadows) in the SU shadow menu, the AO rendering engine does not notice it and continue to use the shadows as they were in the first version of the rendering. I thought to have solved the problem changing the shadows during the rendering phase. But it happens only very seldom and randomly. I tried many other procedures; but without credible results. I am using Sketch up Make 2016 and AO pro.

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Are you rendering on a separate window or in the viewport? To update the shadows while rendering on a separate window, you need to click "Render Window" again

Lucio Barbera's picture

I am not clear: I try again. I can render in the view port or in the separate window. There is not any difference. In both conditions AO keeps a certain shadow, some times a very old shadow even if I shut the computer and open it again. I can try in any way: for instance I finish the rendering in the separate window, I shut the separate window, I change the shadow with the SU menu, I give the order "render in a separate window": the render starts with the old shadows and goes to the end with those. I can try many times with many different SU shadows; the results are always the same with the same old shadow. I cancelled all the SU "scenes", believing the "scenes" could affect the positioning of the shadows. Failure. Is it possible that this happens with complex models, i.e. with heavy files? I ask you this because I tried with simple models and everything is all right, it goes smoothly and prompt. In other words: is it a problem of allocation of memory? I work on a PC with 6 cores Intel i7; 3,20 GHz; 32 giga Ram.

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Could you send the model to our contact email so we can investigate the problem?

Lucio Barbera's picture

Thank you. I sent the model to contact@ambientocclusion-sketchup.com

thanks

I still do not Know if I like Ambient Occlusion or not. It looks very interesting, but a sort of infant app, still not ready to walk alone. The most important bug is the fact that using colors only some faces mantain it in AO rendering. A second defect: if you made a render from sketchup with a shadow, changing the shadow, i.e. the position of the sun, when you ask for a new render from an other point of view, the first shadowing comes back. To overcome this inconvienence I need to close the programme Sketchup e re-open again. Third inconvenience: I do not know why sometimes the rendering action is counted in percentage (from 0 to 100) and when finished it writes done while some other times (too oftef) the rendering action is marked in seconds and minutes and apparently never ends. We badly need a written manual.

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Ambient Occlusion uses only the front material. Please make sure to apply the same material to the front and back faces.

The rendering never ends when you choose "custom" as quality, so that you can stop the rendering only when you are satisfied with the quality

Lucio Barbera's picture

As for the shadow problem I found a solution. If Ia change the direction of the sun (hour and month) in the Sketchup window it is not registered by the Ambient Occlusion window. I have to change the shadow when I am in the rendering phase. Not really convenient, because the Skethup window is the normal ambient in which to try the different view points and shadowings before going into the rendering. More over it is not simple to replicate in the rendering windows the exact position of the sun chosen in the Sketchup window. Anyway: PLEASE, A COMPLETE MANUAL!!! ON LINE WOULD BE GOOD. HAVE MERCY. But head down for the management of this on line forum.

Lucio Barbera's picture

Thank you for your clarifications. Very useful. Good service. But please, prepare a manual, written or in line. The existing tutorial in YOUTUBE, is very poor

Sometimes, when I render in colored mode, only certain objects appear in color, while others remain grayscale. Again, this only happens sometimes. How can I ensure all colors translate through to rendering?

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Ambient Occlusion uses only the front material. Please make sure to apply the same material to the front and back faces.

Robert M's picture

I don't think you're understanding the issue. I have a cabient with stone counter top that is 1-1/2" thick. I applied a material to the top and the edges. Upon rendering, only the top has the material. The edge is white.

Do you intend lighting sources at some point. This seems very much like a Visualizer replacement.

Hello SketchUp Fam,

This plug in rendering is exactly what i need. If i purchase the Pro version will it work with the free version of "SketchUp Make"?

Best Regards,

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Yes, it works on SketchUp Make as well

Mike D's picture

Im having trouble getting the scenes to have sufficent light in the color renders. Too dark overall, not sure what the settings are to overcome this. I have tried white background with sun directly overhead and no shadows, still just too dark...any advice

Mike D's picture

This is happening on interior shots. Just to need to lighten the scenes overall, way too dark...

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Try reducing the parameter "Occlusion Distance" to a value close to 1 or 2

Mike D's picture

Reduced to .499, this did the trick. You guys should consider writing a PDF user manual for this plugin, I might have gotten to this answer on my own through the crash bang method of button pushing, but I don't always have time for that...Nice render by the way. It is a good plugin for the price...was using Visualizer but that one is dead now,. Have Maxwell plugin but like this one....thanks for reply

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Thanks! Yes, a manual is on the way. In the meanwhile, have you looked at the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rst3-SoYAvA

Hi,
We just upgraded to SU 2016 which I see is not compatible with AO Pro. Our SU 2015 license runs out in 60 days, Do you expect to have a compatible upgrade out before then?
Thank you

Amazing product, I will buy it at the end of the trial. Thanks!

I've noticed that if you change a texture, you have to save the file, exit and reopen for the plugin to realize that the texture has changed. Also, tooltips over the controls would help people to learn it, along with a simple Youtube video of how to use the software. It's not obvious that you can only change the settings from the separate rendering window, you should fix that. A help page would be nice, but the video would do the same thing. No way to change where the camera is focused when adjusting depth of field? Works pretty well though.

Please consider adding an ability to export a SketchUp animation to video file, or at least to a directory of sequential images. You could include a setting where you specify what percentage you want each sequential image to calculate to, in order to save huge amounts of rendering time for video output option.

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the compliments! For now this video is the only one available: https://youtu.be/Rst3-SoYAvA, but we'll make new ones soon.

We'll look at the texture problem. Also, you can change the settings in the viewport as well, just right click on the viewport when rendering and a context menu will show up.

Animation will be supported in some future version, but we don't have a timeline yet.

Patrick G.'s picture

Thanks very much for the answers! I'm forwarding the link to this software to a whole bunch of other designers.

Can this plugin allow to export animation with ambient occlusion?

Patrick G.'s picture

I don't think so, but it would be incredible.

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Animation is not supported yet.

Great plugin! I was waiting for something like this: now I have my renderings done just clicking one button and adjusting a few settings.

Aarron C's picture

Hi,
This plugin doesn't seem to be able to render in View>Paralell Projection.

Can you please tell me if there is a way to do this or if it will be an upcoming fix?

Fluid Interactive, Inc's picture

Hi,

Parallel projection is not supported yet, but it will be added soon.
