* LightUp for SketchUp

Welcome to true real-time rendering

LightUp is the fastest and simplest SketchUp renderer on the market.

Thousands of professionals, from one-person architecture practices to movie-makers at Pixar, choose the LightUp plugin for SketchUp to instantly illuminate their models and show their work in the best possible light.

LightUp is the only SketchUp renderer that uses object-based rendering. This means you get stunningly accurate and beautiful results instantly inside the SketchUp window. The speed of LightUp makes it perfect for the way designers work. You can tweak and iterate your models and immediately see results. There's no waiting around for minutes or hours as with old-fashioned ray-tracing renderers. Move the camera around your model and watch everything render perfectly in real time. Create fly-through movies and export a file that can be played by your clients in their web browser.

Whether you're working on product visualisations, architectural designs or immersive 3D experiences, LightUp gives you speedquality and simplicity in a single SketchUp extension.

You can try LightUp FREE FOR 30 DAYS

So click the "Get this Extension" button in the top right of this screen and get started in minutes.

Happy lighting!

Yes, we had a configuration issue earlier. Please login, go to Downloads and press the Re-Download button.

It worked this time. Thanks!

I have just purchased the Perpetual Macintoch Lightup V5 for sketch up. I have followed all of the steps below...numerous times

1. Launch SketchUp 2017
2. Open menu Window->Extension Manager
3. Click on Install Extensions...
4. Select the LightUp .rbz file.

When the .rbz file is selected, nothing happens. What is mean to happen? I can't get this to work and I need this working NOW!

Please let me know what is going wrong, otherwise I request a full refund.

Not sure what happened, but this morning it began to work! Maybe you had to give it 24 hrs??

I had the same problem. It seems that it takes a long time to download before it will install.

I downloaded the retail version of this plug in, but despite the fact the money was debited from my account, the downloaded file wasn't operable using the Windows Extension Manager.

Not impressed.

I owe a big thank you to LightUp! I had an important presentation to a client today, Monday morning. I decided to download LightUp Software on a Saturday evening and had problems because I hadn't deleted the demo version first. LightUp answered all my questions on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. They resolved them. I presented to the client this morning. The client loved the design and presentation. We have the contract. The contract is worth 200 times the annual cost of the LightUp software. If you're reading this and wondering about getting LightUp....get it!

The LightUp download is a .rbz file (SketchUp Extension). You need to launch SketchUp, open the Extension Manager and choose "Install.." to load the LightUp extension.

I know I need to launch SketchUp, open the Extension Manager and choose "Install, but when I select the 6Mb .rbz file nothing happens, and the free Demo version I downloaded yesterday no longer works either.

Please could you either sort this out or issue a refund.

Hi Adam,
I am a MAC user, but somehow I downloaded and paid for the windows version of Light up
Is there a way to download the mac version without having to pay for it again?

Adam B.'s picture

All sorted. Login and your account has been updated.

Nope. Once it finally rendered the window it added its own background in place of the one I had, then popped up two windows I couldn't remove to see the final effect. I could see the edges moving when I manipulated the angle but the windows were stuck there. Pass.

How to use EULUMDAT files in the LightUp? Possible?

Adam B.'s picture

LightUp currently supports reading IES files only.

I cant wait to start jusing it :)

Good evening Adam
We bought a few months ago a Lightup 5.3 annual license.
Today we had the need to reinstall the extension, but we could not , because the registration code that we used is not valid. You can re-enable our code?
We should have the for free up grade to 5.4 , shouldn't?
Could you kindly tell me the procedure to do that?

best regards

Hello Adam,

I have uninstalled the demo version long ago. Never got it to work right or my PC needs an upgrade. Meanwhile I need my Sketchup, and every time I start it though, I get the Lightup Demo Registration window. Please please, it's killing me! I even tried to uncheck the extension and it still pops up!

dear Adam

i bought light up and i very entusiastic. But i found a bug for mirror/specular materials

for example:

In the same file i have 4 surface with the same material

2 surface mirror correctly
2 surfece doesnt mirror correctly

I finally figured out how to unintall the program:
You can find the .rb file in AppData folder (usually hidden) under Users folder

LightUp is a lovely program. Its just a personal taste that I prefer another rendering.

Best lucks with LightUp

Hi Adam,

Would you please let me know how to UNINSTALL LightUp for SketchUp( the Trial Version)!!!

I have been trying everything and nothing worked...

Adam B.'s picture

Easiest way is to open Preferences->Extensions, and uncheck "LightUp Tools".

สวัสดีครับ ขอบคุณครับ

good afternoon,

i was wondering why it is taking me too long to render a scene with a lot of faces. it says __% complete (2___.__ Mrays)

Adam B.'s picture

Hi Louise

The time it takes to light a model is largely effected by Resolution you have set in Preferences. For an interior, start with 25cm to get a quick result and then drop down to 5cm for final output.

Please watch this video on setting Resolution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywyI0vJNNzQ

At first I was delighted with the overall idea of lightup and bought its perpetual licence. Now I can easily say that it may be the most unstable sketchup renderer plug in. It's very difficult to take the same effect everytime, there are not much customization options and its user interface is waaayyy to old an difficult.

Also the author of the plugin tried to charge me another perpetual licence price to upgrade my version. When I told him that perpetual means perpetual like all the other programs he told me that "it's only perpetual for the version when you bought it, if you want to go perpetual with the next version you have to pay again"

Now :) this isn't funny. When I resisted, he accepted to upgrade for one time (still appreciate it) but for the next version I won't be "perpetual" anymore he said :) Sorry to hear that.

Anyways, I don't need it anymore. My advice to all designers who search for a quality sketchup renderer, just search a little more. I don't want to give the renderer name I'm using now but you will easily find it which has much more quality end results, have a much more modern and easy user interface and is real "perpetual".

Totally, good at first, not satisfied when you get used to it and see the other competitors.
