How many computers can a key of skalp be used on? I was under the impression that a single key could be used on a primary work station and second computer but am having no luck activating the second one.

Skalp's picture

Skalp can be installed on two computers. If you have problems with your second computer please contact us at support@skalp4sketchup.com so we can fix the problem with the license.

This plugin does what it says, and does it well. It is both easy to get started, and has lots of depth to it for advanced users.

Sketchup, Skalp and LayOut is all I need to produce sophisticated construction documents of entire houses, including construction details. Goodbye AutoCAD & Vectorworks (good riddance, really).

You can see examples of how I use this plugin here: https://blog.sketchup.com/article/tom-kaneko-design-architecture-sketch-...

Skalp's picture

Thanks Tom!

Martin L.'s picture

Purchased the plugin but it doesn't seem to be working correctly in conjunction with LSS arch plugin, the openings i.e doors and windows are not recognized and the section tool just gives them a wall cut. Could you please look into this issue?

Skalp's picture

Martin,

Please send a model made with LSS arch plugin to support@skalp4sketchup.com so we can see why it isn't working.

Kind regards,

The Skalp Team

Martin L.'s picture

Thank you for you response,
I have forwarded a link to a model generated using Lss Arch to the support address. On a different note, could you give me tentative dates on which you think skalp 1.5 might be ready for release?

Skalp's picture

Martin,

I discovered that the opening of your walls are in a separate context. Skalp doesn't work this way. In essence, Skalp searches and selects particular sets of faces from the model, intersects them with the section plane and looks for 'closed loops' in the results to fill. Only closed loops can get filled. Skalp will track and process your model 'context by context'. A 'context' is a Group, a Component or simply the Model itself. So, the process starts by taking your top level context: the model itself. Next, Groups and Components are taken one at a time. The resulting 'fills' will be updated and placed into one managed group in your model. While not necessary, it is good practice to try to create components and groups that are 'manifold', 'solid' objects. These objects will be processed faster and are likely to produce cleaner section results. If a selected object reports a'Volume' in the entity info dialog, this indicates it is a valid solid object. Skalp does track nested objects. That is: groups or components inside other groups or components. So organizing your model in smaller nested groups/components might help getting better section results.

Skalp 1.5 will be released as soon as possible.

The Skalp Team

Martin L.'s picture

Exploding and regrouping the components seems to be the easiest work around for now.

Matt D.'s picture

Why do parts of the section plane disappear after I save the model? it appears to be just a single piece of geometry that does not retain it's section plane, i.e., a specific solid group. Any thoughts from anyone?

Skalp's picture

Matt,

Please send some screenshots of the problem to support@skalp4sketchup.com so we can take a look what is going wrong.

Skalp is a must-have plugin for anyone in construction/ design activities. It automates the process that I talk about in my Con Docs book and I'm delighted that you guys created it!

5 stars!

Garry K.'s picture

I install all my plugins in a public area
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Sketchup

When I install skalp it has load errors.
Skalp requires me to install in plugins area.

All my other plugins work just fine in the public area.
My strategy really simplifies moving from Sketchup version to Sketchup version.
What is important is that all the settings are seamless. I don't have to reinstall everything and configure everything.

Skalp's picture

Garry,

What do you do to install your plugins in a public area? How do you point SketchUp to look for the plugins in that folder? Skalp uses the Sketchup.find_support_file("Plugins") method to find where the plugins are installed.

Kind regards,

Guy

# Play with this - it checks additional paths

PATH = @plugin.path()
LOADER_SUFFIX = '_loader'
LOADER = File.basename(PATH)
tmp = LOADER.split('_')
RBSFILE = tmp[0] + '_' + tmp[1] + '.rbs'

# RELDIR is relative to Plugins dir, OR the dir from
# the $LOAD_PATH array that require used to find it.
RELDIR = File.dirname(PATH)

ROOT = $LOAD_PATH.find(false) do |abspath|
Kernel.test(?d, File.join(abspath, RELDIR))
end

if ROOT
ABSDIR = File.join(ROOT, RELDIR)
else
# assume the target dir is directly below, the dir that THIS file is in.
ABSDIR = File.join(File.dirname(__FILE__), RELDIR)
end

Garry K.'s picture

I put a file I call 'loader.rb' in the plugin folder for each sketchup version. It contains 2 lines.

require 'sketchup.rb'
require_all('c:/users/public/documents/sketchup')

Sketchup uses it's own plugins folder and uses my public folder
Version specific plugins go into that versions plugins folder.
Really well behaved code goes into my public folder.
I have some plugins that work with Sketchup 7, 8, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016

All my own plugins that I have written go in the public area
All my plugins that make use of so files also go here. A piece of ruby code figures out the version of Sketchup and loads the appropriate '.so' file when necessary.

Skalp's picture

Garry,

Sorry Skalp can't be copied from version to version because it uses some parts programmed in C++ and this parts needs to be compiled for every different SketchUp version. On installation the correct version will be installed.

Can you send me the errors to support@skalp4sketchup.com?

Kind regards,

Guy

This problem at first sight looks like you aren't running the latest version of SketchUp 2014. Could you check Sketchup About > you should have version 14.1.1282 on windows or 14.1.1283 on mac

If your version is lower, please update that first. If you version is one of these and the problem would still persist, we will step into it further. You can contact us by email: support@skalp4sketchup.com

How can I solve it?

Skalp's picture

The problem is Sketchup having troubles with special characters such as 'á' in the user profile path. They will need to fix this in a future maintenance release of SketchUp. This Sketchup problem will manifest itself on a lot of plugins from the extension warehouse also.
Currently you can work around as follows:
- create a new user on your computer without any special characters in the name.
- Install and use SketchUp on that users.
- After you have create the new user profile, you may change your user name back to your real name including the 'ç'. On renaming a user, Windows will NOT change the actual profile paths themselves, so everything keeps working.
I do understand this is not an elegant solution, as you end up with either 2 user accounts and having to switch back and forth. Or you end up having to move a lot of stuff over to the new profile.
For windows 7 Microsoft also explains how to change your existing user profile here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/19834.how-to-...

Hello guys... here I get a continuos "Encode error" causing sketchup to close .. how can I solve it ??

Skalp's picture

Giulio,

Do you have a full or a trial license?

Remove the Skalp.lic file. And re-activate your Skalp version again with your license activation code.
You can find this file in the following location:
On windows:
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp [n]\SketchUp\Plugins\Skalp_Skalp\

On OS X:
/Users//Library/Application Support/SketchUp [n]/SketchUp/Plugins/Skalp_Skalp/

If this doesn’ t fix the problem, please contact support@skalp4sketchup.com

This is really a great tool, i'm an architect, and i use it almost every day. Each scene is sketchup is a skalp section in my project. Thanks

Thanks for the awesome extension, and excellent support provided by Guy, I am very happy to not be applying hatches in Layout. Worth every penny.

Renee D's picture

I purchased a license and am running SketchUp 2015 on my iMac.
My model is set up by layer and I have followed the tutorials to use the by Layer function, but after I define a pattern for a layer in an active section, it doesn't show it in my model even after clicking the update arrows. Then, after a few seconds it jumps back to "no pattern selected" in the list.

It has also crashed my sketchup a number of times today.

I really like the idea of this add-on, but at the moment, it's frustrating me.

Skalp's picture

Rennee,

The Skalp pattern layer option gives very Nice results but is hard to setup correctly because there are some ruby api functions missing and you need to do some tricky parts manually. Once setup correctly it works like a charm.

Please send a mail to support@skalp4sketchup.com with your license information, some explination and your model so we can look what you're doing wrong.

Using skalp with sketch up 2014 on windows. My model is big (250mb ) and has a lot of groups. Skalp says Encode error and shuts sketchup down. What do I do to make this work ? Really like it and would like to purchase after my trial.

hey . is it possible to export cut sections to Kerkythea like zorro2 does? really intresteted in the product.

At this moment this isn't possible, but this feature is high on our list.

it’s awesome! Skalp fills a big gap when it comes to construction drawings within Sketchup/Layout.

Skalp is great! Want to know if there is a way to get it to cut sections with walls in the new BuildEdge Pro 5.3? Right now, when I lay out a plan using BE Pro wall components, I can't get a successful section for Layout.

These two plugins together present a formidable combination and posture Sketchup closer to true BIM, if......I can get them to play well together. Your thoughts?

I would also like to see if these two work together.

I try to run Skalp but when i click for run it i have the message, Please unload extension Dibac to run calp

Skalp's picture

Gerrit,

At this moment you can't run Skalp and Dibac / SolidSection together. Later today or tomorrow we will release a new version which can run together with Dibac. But we still recommend to unload SolidSection when running Skalp.

I knew I was going to buy this one after the 1st day of the trial.

The extension does exactly what we need for interior elevations, sections, details and plans.

There are tricks and techniques to create hatches and poches inside SketchUp, but nothing that works nearly this well and fluidly with section planes & scenes.

Anything that helps create the desired result inside sketchup before sending to Layout is great!

Great extension.
