I just installed this extension, but the STEP file import is not available. I tried installing it from SketchUp and from the internet, but nothing works.

The software I have is SketchUp Make 2017, but I still have the 30 day Pro trial.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you running on Windows or Mac?

Just to confirm you also tried installing from the following link:

I see above that you can request a trial license. I don't see a link or address to do that with so I will request it here. I have loaded the program but need the trial license I guess to make it do anything. I am running Sketchup 2017 Pro on a Macbook Pro. I assume that the import tool will simply add the STP suffix to the list of imports acceptable to select. If that is wrong please correct me.

Bob

Simlab Soft's picture

The STEP importer will be available under extensions menu, it does not add the STEP, STP suffix to list of importers.

For help with support please contact the following email support@simlab-soft.com

They will be glad to help you with process.

Trial version installed but will not open 100MB file. Is the file too big???
More than happy to purchase the full licence if It means I can open bigger files

Simlab Soft's picture

The nature of the files is different, while there is no hard limit, the amount of memory needed to handle 100MB step file may be much larger than the file size.

If you can share the file with support@simlab-soft.com they will be glad to check it for you.

The Simlab importer works very well with simple files. It ist quite limited when the files become complicated.
Working with SU2015 on win 10, i7 2.3 GHz, Quadro K1100M

Is there any suggestion around the max size of a file that can be imported? Tried uploading a .stp file and Sketchup took forever before "not responding" Filesize: 2.3MB

Simlab Soft's picture

The pluigin was used with much larger files.
Can you please send the file to support@simlab-soft.com
They can check it for you.

I'm using 2017 Sketchup

Simlab Soft's picture

I just tested the latest installer on Mac with SketchUp 2017, and it worked.

Can you please check the extension list to see if the extension exists in the list.

Did you install an older version of the plugin from warehouse?

It will be better if you can send this information to support@simlab-soft.com they can help you on Monday.

Hello,

I have doenladed your app into the mac and went through the installer, but then didn't see it in Sketchup.

Also, Which tab do I need to open in order to import STEP or IGS? HOw do I import with it?

Thanks

Simlab Soft's picture

Just to be sure, what version of SketchUp are you using?

When will this available for SketchUp Pro 2017?

Simlab Soft's picture

The plugins were updated on the website, so if you need a new version supporting SketchUp 2017 you can download it from the following link
http://www.simlab-soft.com/3d-plugins/STEP_Importer_For_Sketchup-main.aspx

We are working on finalizing the extension warehouse packages and they should be available soon.

Ashraf

Great, thank you!

Hi,

I have SketchUp and the STP import working at home for my hobby projects. Now my employer asks me to demo the stuff, they consider a Pro License for work here. I installed trial versions of both SketchUp and this STP import on my office PC. I have the extensions tab, I hover over the SimLab Step Importer and click Import, but nothing happens. What do I need to do?
Cheers,
Hugo

Thanks for the quick reply. The version I can download there is a 64bit version, I run a 32bit Windoze system. Do you have a link for that, too?

Cheers,
Hugo

Simlab Soft's picture

Starting with version 2016 we only have 64 bit version of the plugin.
We have 32 bit for 2015 versions and prior

Ah, thanks. I found the 'older version' link, didn't consider that.

Cheers,

Hugo

I have the 2016 trail version of SketchUp. I installed the 32bit 2015 version of the STP import. It all installs fine, but I cannot chose STP import in the normal import option under the file tab, and I have no extensions tab.

Help?

Cheers,

Hugo

Hey Guys,
I'm trying to import a stp. into sketchup. I downloaded the importer then installed it but I still don't see where to import these files into ketchup. When I click on import, stp. files are not an option to open.

Up at the Top, where you see the: File, Edit, View, Camera, Draw, Tools, Window, EXTENSIONS, and Help tabs, in that order(from left-to-right.) click on the Extensions tabs, and then hover above the SlimLab Step Importer, and click on "Import... "

The problem is that in Sketchup 8 I can't find the Extensions tab

Simlab Soft's picture

In SketchUp 8 it used to be called Plugins, you should find it under the plugins menu

So the trial/license server seems to be down. Manual submission resulted in a license.sl file being emailed. On 1st attempt, this failed miserably, telling me "This is a trial license, you must now buy a Full license". I uninstalled and cleaned out *everything* from Step-up and Sketchup. Reinstalled. Now when i try to enter the license, I get "This trial license is valid for 30 uses" or something like this.

I still haven't heard back from support@stepup or license@stepup. I expect more for something I've paid for. It seems to be working, but this is some sketchy (no pun intended) business here.

Simlab Soft's picture

I checked and I believe the license was already sent to you.
Can you please check your spam folder.

If you did not receive the license please email me directly at info at simlab-soft dot com

Matt S.'s picture

Please read comment above. I received the license.sl file, but your plugin believes that it is a trial.

Simlab Soft's picture

I sent a pro license to your email. It should work.

I've tried using this to import a file of a computer component (Download page: https://grabcad.com/library/asus-z10pe-d16-ws-dual-socket-2011-3-motherb...).
I selected the step file from your extension and then the program hangs (i.e. unresponsive) when it "attempts" to load it. I'm running a dual xeon setup (8C/16T) and a GTX 970, so I'm assuming the computer isn't the problem. Help!!

Simlab Soft's picture

I tested the model, the models is large and due to the different nature of STEP and SKP files it takes some time, but after few minutes it imprts fine.

I noticed the file is available also as a solidworks file, so I tried using the solidworks importer and it was faster, as no tessellation was needed in this case.

Tucker P's picture

When I attempt to activate the trial for the Solidworks assembly file, it says I either already activated trial mode on the computer, or that I can't use the same code more than once.

Simlab Soft's picture

please send an email to license@simlab-soft.com they will send you a trial license.

Phillip H's picture

I just purchased sketup 2016 after taking advantage of the free trial. I have now downloaded a trial version of this STEP Importer extension. I go to the extensions tab --> select the importer --> browse to the file --> select ok and nothing happens. The mouse wheel spins for a few seconds like it is doing something and then nothing. I have even had the mechanical desinger recreate these files for me thinking there may be something wrong with the file but it still will not work with the importer. I can get the files to open with other viewers such as edrawings and AutoDesk Inventor so I don't believe there is anything wrong with the files I have.

I got the same issue as Phillip H describe here.

Tried this on a fresh install of Sketchup 2016 and a 20.4MB STEP file (http://www.4dsystems.com.au/productpages/uLCD-32PTU/downloads/uLCD-32PTU...).

Crashed. :(
