AR-media Plugin
With AR-media™ Plugin you can visualize 3D models using Augmented Reality directly in the real physical space which surrounds you.
AR-media Plugin

With AR-media™ Plugin, Trimble SketchUp™ users are allowed to visualize their 3D models using Augmented Reality directly in the real physical space which surrounds them. In a very precise sense, through AR-media™ Plugin, SketchUp™ 3D models can be visualized out of the digital workspace directly on users' desktop, by connecting a simple webcam and by printing a suitable code.
By means of the Exporting feature, users can create and publish augmented reality files autonomously. Files created by this feature can be visualized on any computer with the freely available AR-media™ Player, without the need of having Trimble SketchUp™ and the Plugin installed. Users can now create their own SketchUp™ Augmented Reality models and distribute them to their clients as independent, stand-alone files and let their clients experience such models in Augmented Reality in a click.
The AR-media™ Plugin provides users with an advanced visualization functionality which serves two main purposes:

  • Study and analyze scaled virtual prototypes in real environments
  • Communicate 3D projects immersively and astonishingly

All you need to make AR-media™ Plugin work is a personal computer, a webcam and a printed code attached to the software. A wide range of Head Mounted Displays, including eMagin, i-glasses™ are also supported.

Features

Latest version of the AR-media™ Plugin comes with a lot of new features that make it suitable for the creation of high quality Augmented Reality content. Besides increasing creative possibilities, the new features enhance designer's control over Augmented Reality workflow and visualization.

Major features available in the latest version

  • Video objects support for iOS devices: AR-media video objects can be displayed in iOS Player.
  • Geo-located models for iOS devices: you can now use iOS Player to display virtual models in the real world without any marker.
  • Exporter for iOS devices: you can now create .armedia files which can be displayed using AR-media™ Player for iOS.
  • Chroma key videos: you can play videos created with the chroma key technique (both green and blue screen is supported) as textures on your 3D objects.
  • Linked Markers: it is now possible to display a single model on two or more markers, granting the possibility to display the same object with different viewpoints.
  • Layers' Management: 3D objects can be placed on different layers, which can be displayed independently during the AR visualization.
  • Timed Slideshow: you can organize your 3D contents to act as a set of slides. In fact, each layer can be displayed for a chosen time interval and then replaced with the following layer.
  • Shadows: you can now configure the sunlight in SketchUp™ to cast shadows on 3D objects, in order to obtain a more realistic visualization. Moreover, you can interact with this light source in real-time, moving it and modifying the shadows' visualization.
  • Clipping/Sectioning: thanks to the Clipping planes' management features, it is possible to create sections of 3D objects in real-time.

After deeper investigation, here are my conclusions:
https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=56921&p=625822#p62...

Summary of compatible plugin versions::
SU7: 1.0
SU8: from 1.0 to 2.2
SU2013: from 1.0 to 2.2
SU2014: 2.3
SU2015: 2.3? (possible issues due to switch to 64 bit)
SU2017: 2.3? (possible issues due to Ruby update from 2.0 to 2.2)

ARMedia plugin is compatible only with Google Sketchup, not Trimble Sketchup, i.e. only with sketchup versions released before 2013 acquisition of Sketchup by Trimble.
It should work with Skecthup 8 and maybe Sketchup 2013.
This post talks about update to Sketchup 2014, but I didn't test it yet:
https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=56921

I'm currently struggling to get the plugin working again with SU2013: I installed SU2016 and SU2017 before figuring out the declared compatibility issues, so now I've broken my plugin installation ad I am no more able to recover it...

I'll write here if I find a solution.

In the meantime, here you can find old versions of sketchup:
http://win98.altervista.org/sketchup

Please note that old and new versions of Sketchup CAN coexist installed on same PC, at least up to SU2016: I was used to use SU8 to design and SU2013 to use Armedia plugin, while SU 2016 was also present in my system (but not working with the plugin).

It should also be noted that after SU2013 the plugin script language (Ruby) switched to version 2.0, incompatible with previous ones, hence many plugins designed for SU2013 and previous versions cannot work with subsequent versions of SU unless updated by developer.

I have downloaded it many times today and it doesn't seem to work with my SketchUp Make 2017.
I used to use it without any issues, but have not been successful so far. I would really appreciate any help you can give me on this.

Yeah - I went through all the steps to License, Install and review the Users Mannual, and … nothing. No pallet, no tool set, no information.
Using SU2015 on MacBookPro (2014).

Tried it - "NO SU-installation found" during installation of the plugin :-(

I downloaded the free version it directly from their site and it is a really cool plugin. However. it displays their logo on the screen as a watermark, very annoying, I understand they want sell it, but at 250 euros or 320 dollars, they're crazy to think people will purchase it when the code is available as open source in many venues. I'll pay 25 dollars max for this app or plugin whatever you wanna call it. If they were serious about their work they should offer it at more affordable rates, considering sketchup users are in the thousands, maybe more than that. It's a really good plugin, but stop being greedy.

I have installed AR plugin for window7, then activated a free license, but somehow SU2013 shows up an error message as
" Cannot locate the main files to start AR-media(TM) Plugin. Corrupt installation".
Please make a suggestion.
