Solar North

Provides tools for your to set and display the solar north angle that SketchUp uses to calculate the sun location, and therefore shadow directions. Useful if you've imported a model with a different "north" than SketchUp's default.

The Solar North extension requires an active SketchUp Pro license.

Doesn't work at all. This should be implemented in the software.

Complètement d’accord !!!!!

trying to get a complete answer from the "sketch up team" is a joke! I guess they have nothing to do, so you have to get piecemeal answers and hope for the best.

I have pro 2013 and have successfully loaded the toolbar and it seems to work though I have not tried all of the functionality yet. I do not want to change the default settings untill I understand something, hopefully developers are watching this thread.

I have imported a scene from google maps and with it the geolocation of the project (prior to installing the north angle toolbar). On google maps north is always straight up. When I use the north arrow to display the north angle it is around 30 deg off. This could not be the magnetic declination difference since it is only 8.8deg for this area. How does the default north arrow calculate the default position if not from the geolocation? I have moved the default axis many times while modeling, could this have caused the confusion? Is there a way to get the north arrow to snap back to the geolocation?

What fool removed this from 2013 as standard?

...one who doesn't work for Trimble any more

Vladimir Syroezhkin's picture

It'll be very useful if this plugin will support scenes. I mean I would like to set different solar north angles in each scene tabs. Could you add this function?

Terry W's picture

Seconded. This used to work correctly and now it doesn't. (2013 Pro)

Scott G's picture

What a pain. Should I load it?
So what was the fix. I newer version or running as Admin??
Thanks.

I think its fixed, it workes perfectly here. :)

Arq P's picture

Just a simple message appears then ok (Error Loading File solarnorth_loader.rb
undefined method `GetString' for nil:NilClass). Enter. Ok.

Arq P's picture

Not problem for me. Just install .rbz archive inside Skecthup 2013. It depends of permission of Administrator. Ok ?
